Happy Holidays!

11/15/2014

It's never too early to be thinking about the upcoming holidays when you are an innkeeper.  I feel like guests who come into town and stay at the Inn for Thanksgiving do not want to have the Christmas decorations up when they are here in November.  You get enough of that on TV and at the mall.  So being an innkeeper means  a mad rush the day after Thanksgiving to get the house decorated as quickly as possible.  Rooms are being booked for Christmas day and Christmas eve, which means it is difficult to do your own celebrating when the guests come first.  I am honored that they wish to spend the holidays at the Clichy Inn and try to make every effort to make their stay comfortable and memorable.  This year my grandsons Chase and Lucas will be here....we will find a little corner to make our own memories and traditions along with guests that will be coming and going throughout the holidays.  Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  It has been a great year at the Clichy Inn and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Grandma Mary

Today is my Grandmother's Birthday, she is my maternal grandmother.  She passed away at the age of 85.  I spent quite a bit of time with her since she lived with us several times.  Grandma was pretty difficult to get along with, she was from "the old country".  She came to the United States  at the age of 17.  She married my grandfather in 1916.  I just recently discovered that she had 2 sets of twins before my mother was born.  Only one twin survived over the age of one, his name was Edward and he died in WWII.  My grandfather died at age 43 of diabetes.  Grandma had a boarding house in Chicago renting rooms to single men who were mostly laborers.  In the 50's she decided to move to Florida where she lived until she passed away.

She didn't have very many belongings but she did give me her china and silverware.  I have since added to the patterns and use it everyday serving guests in the Bed and Breakfast.  They remind me of her and her difficult life.  I feel very blessed.  Happy Birthday Grandma!

Pets Welcome!

2/8/2013

Pets are welcome to stay in the Carriage House with prior approval from the Innkeeper (that would be me). I am amazed at how many people travel with their pets.  I guess it does make sense since many of my guests are "snowbirds" and they spend several months down south. This is a photo of a recent guest that stayed for a week.  She is from Japan, and was here to visit her show dog here in Statesville.  Scotty is back on the show circuit and his owner has gone back to Japan.

If you are traveling with your well behaved pet, give me a call and book the carriage house.  There is lots of room to roam in the backyard of the Inn and lots of nice places to walk around town.

A new year is here.  I can not believe that it has been 9 years since Larry and I left Florida to pursue a new adventure here in Statesville.  We only knew one family here in town although my daughter did live in Ft. Mill only 45 minutes away.  We were welcomed by curious neighbors who have grown to be the most wonderful friends.  I could not believe how welcoming Statesville was to us.  We opened the Bed and Breakfast in April of 2005 after much renovation, painting, cleaning and decorating.  Lots of guests have come and gone, some just passing through, some on business, and others who have become like family to me.  October 2008 Larry lost his long battle with leukemia, it was his dream to move here and let me do a job that I could do from home.  He had the confidence in me to give up our lives in Florida and just "go for it".  His memory lives on with his collections throughout the rooms.  I am so grateful that I took a chance to pursue a dream.

Today the LKN Butterfly Club came for brunch.  It was hosted by Pam, she made a great breakfast of peach french toast, ham biscuits, fresh fruit and ice coffee.  I gave all of the ladies a tour of the inn and helped Pam in serving and clean up.  They were a great bunch of ladies, hope to see them again, either at the Lake or here at the Inn.

Red Hat Ladies at the Inn today!

Today was the first time I had the Red Hat Ladies at the Inn.  Pam, the hostess for the month decided to have them meet here instead of having them to her own home.  She did prepare the food and I helped serve and provide them with drinks.  After I gave them a tour or the Inn and showed them the guest rooms and collections.

We will be helping Pam next month with her Butterfly group.  I don't think I am ready to "join" the red hat club yet, even though I qualify....but it was fun having them here today!

The Downtown Statesville Streetscape is almost complete.  New stores have been moving in, The Wine Maestro has moved to Broad Street.  Now my guests can walk two blocks away to sample wine on Friday night, or buy a bottle to enjoy back at the Inn.  New stores are slowly taking up residence in storefronts which have been vacant since I moved here in 2004.

We have a variety of great restaurants, shops and interesting architecture for everyone to enjoy.  If you plan on coming to Statesville, be sure to save some time to check out the new downtown.

Why guests visit Statesville?  It is always interesting to ask guests why they visit Statesville.  Recently I had a group come to visit the Hiddenite Gem Mine.  They stayed for 5 nights and went to the Mine 2 days and had a great time.
